The role of gas flame arresters on gas pipelines
date:2026-01-07 11:14
The gas flame arrester is designed to prevent the spread of fire in case of a fire accident; the water seal is used to remove condensate water from the gas and maintain the pipeline seal. Gas flame arresters are commonly used on pipelines that transport flammable gases. If flammable gas is ignited, the gas flame can spread throughout the entire pipeline network. To prevent such a dangerous occurrence, a flame arrester is also necessary.
Working principle of gas flame arrester
Most flame arresters are composed of solid materials with numerous small, uniform or non-uniform channels or pores that allow gas to pass through. These channels or pores are required to be as small as possible, just large enough to allow the flame to pass through. In this way, once the flame enters the flame arrester, it is divided into many small flame streams and is extinguished. The mechanism by which the flame can be extinguished is through heat transfer and the wall effect.
